The Role

  • To work collaboratively with the Occupational Health Team and client to ensure that health surveillance is introduced wherever there is a significant residual health risk to employees
  • To ensure comprehensive understanding of job roles and policies within the client organisation
  • To help educate employees on the beneficial aspects of baseline screening and health surveillance and to help them understand that health surveillance is mandatory where the risk assessment has identified the need. To advise employers where an individual refuses to under-take tests or answer medical questions
  • To ensure that the clinical area is maintained in accordance with Team Prevent standards and to liaise with the central office regarding the calibration log to ensure the effective maintenance and reliability of screening equipment
  • To monitor stock control of consumables in line with Team Prevent policy and standards
  • To ensure compliance with fridge temperature checking and stock control protocols
  • To provide fitness for work statements based on a sound knowledge of the job role and relevant legislation and to send these electronically to the management within the timeframe agreed on the contract
  • To ensure that records are maintained in line with Team Prevent standards and to ensure that any feedback is factual and limited to outcome statements related to an individual’s functional ability and fitness for specific work, with any advised restrictions
  • To work with the Occupational Health team to provide grouped results against which the client organisation can assess the effectiveness of control measures
  • To ensure that a health record is established for each individual, as distinct from the Occupational Health Clinical record in line with Team Prevent protocols
  • To ensure compliance with Team Prevent’s Patient Group Directions and administer appropriate immunisations and vaccines at required time and following appropriate clinical practice and Green Book guidance
  • To provide vaccination of staff appropriate to their role
  • Undertake blood tests as and when required for the appropriate purpose and carry out follow up action as necessary
  • Provide appropriate advice and supports to staff that sustain inoculation injuries involving human body fluids
  • Participate in Health and Well Being initiatives to encourage staff to take responsibility for their health and improve working lives. Provide informed advice on healthier lifestyles, working with outside agencies where appropriate
  • Take responsibility for the Know your Numbers or Smoking Cessation programmes at on-site clients
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to team, policy or procedure developments as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of confidential health records relating to all screening and effective recall as appropriate
  • To effectively input and recall data from the management database system (EOPAS)in accordance with the requirements of the company
  • Ensure appropriate removal of general and clinical waste

Person Specification

Ideally have experience of working within an Occupational Health role or have some health screening experience

  • Participate in relevant training to maintain and develop clinical and managerial practices, taking responsibility for own personal and professional development
  • Be a Registered Nurse (Adult) on part 1 or 2of the NMC register
  • Have undergone training in spirometry, audiometry, immunisation and vaccination and venepuncture
  • Be aware of Health and Safety legislation and health surveillance requirements under COSHH
  • Ensure PREP requirements are met
  • IT literacy is essential
  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills
  • Work confidently independently and also within a team framework
